give it a chance to go wrong

ree

there were many doubts

the tangled emotions did not help clarity

I tried to help him untangle his thoughts, feelings and needs

with every question I asked him, he returned with the same doubts

he knew what he wanted to do but on the other side of the scale weighed all the considerations that he could not reconcile with his desires

the session was coming to an end

the lack of clarity did not

I felt him exasperated

between deep breaths, I tried to remain a source of connection, so that he could experience this state without running away or agonising

he looked at me

I thought he wanted me to say something else

I sensed that the moment called for a pause and a connection to the breath

I looked at him while I took deep breaths in and out

I heard him coming through the silence:

‘i have to give it a chance to go wrong’

I smiled and replied:

‘you have to give it a chance to go wrong’

The decision was made, in peace

Without guarantees, but with the certainty that he would allow himself to give it a chance to go wrong

How many times, in the face of a clear and resounding desire, has the fear of ‘going wrong’ been the only source of doubt and uncertainty? Many. Too many.

What would it have been like if you had given it a chance to go wrong?
